Fall Rally, Osceola National Forest - October 10 - 12,
2003
Come and join the Florida Land Rover Club for our annual Fall
Rally. This is a great event for the whole family; even if you have
never been off-road before. We'll have trail rides, a GPS Hunt, and
hopfully trials course and blindfold obstacle course! Of course our famous
BBQ dinner Saturday evening.
Based on the success of the Spring Rally, and the lack of resources currently
in Ocala, we've decided to return to the Osceola National Forest and
the Ocean Pond campground in Olustee. This is a state run waterfront
campground equipped with new facilities and waterfront camp
sites. The site has a first come, first served rule, so come
early if you can! Last spring the site was very full, but we managed to
sqeeze everyone in. There are 2 nearby overflow campgrounds as
well. It really is a well equiped campground, if not a little more
spread out than we are used to, but nice facilities and a great water
view.

We are currently working on the event schedule, which will include trail
rides, a Saturday night GPS hunt once again by Jonathan Galpin (the GPS
MASTER!) and company, a trials event or blindfold obstacle course, then
the Saturday night BBQ and club meeting and raffle. We will be
holding elections for all officers during dinner. All events will begin
at the Ocean Pond campground unless otherwise stated.
The event will be fun for all Land Rovers, from stock Range Rovers to modified
Series trucks and everything in between. Everglades Rover will host a
beginners run on Saturday for any newbies. Depending on the weather,
Osceola can be a wet place (car wash anyone?), but we'll do our best to scout
out some nice trails. Make sure to always drive within your
abilities, and never attempt to drive over or through an obstacle that you
aren't comfortable with.
Fees and Specifics
Rally Registration will be Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at Ocean
Pond. There is no FLRC Rally fee for paid members, and non-member
fees are $20 per vehicle (each entry receives 1 shirt). We will be
allowing half-year memberships for anyone who wants to join the club
on-site.
Saturday night dinner will be $8 a head, and additional t-shirts can be
purchased for $10 each.
The camping fees for Ocean Pond are as follows, and must be paid directly to
the on-site host:
Full hook-ups - $18 a night, water only - $12 a night, tent
sites - $8 a night. First come, first served basis for all
sites. Maximum of 5 people allowed in a single campsite (this was
flexible in the spring). Each site has a lantern post, picnic table,
and fire ring, with convenient access to drinking water, restrooms and
showers. Most sites have tent pads; many also have room for various size
trailers.
I think the camping fees for Hog Pen are $8 per night, also no reservations.
Directions
The Ocean Pond campground is located outside of Olustee,
FL, just off Highway 90 about twelve miles east of Lake
City. Take exit 324 off of I-10 and head West on US 90. Go
about 5 miles and turn right (north) onto CR 250A (there is a sign for Ocean
Pond campground, GPS N30 12.382 - W82 24.599). The entrance
to Ocean Pond is a couple of miles down on the left, past FR
266 (look for the 'campground' sign, GPS N30 14.900 - W82 26.412).
See the following site for more information on
Ocean Pond (please note, some of the information on that link is
outdated, as the Ocean Pond campground *does* have electric available)
Please check the bulletin board for event specifics, details and last minute
changes. Please feel free to post any questions to the board, or
email the club President, Dave Souza
