Fall Rally - October 25 - 27, 2002
The Florida Land Rover Club held our annual Fall Rally on the weekend of October
25, 2002. This was a great event. I'll have to get the final count
from Gene, but there must have been close to 40 rovers in attendance. The
weather was great, if a little warm for a Fall Rally. There was some fun trail
riding on Saturday afternoon. In honor of Kenny's last stand, he ended up on
his side. What a great photo! Any prospective club members don't worry, this
kind of thing only happens to Kenny! Dan Sandlak (with the help of Chris and
Gene) cooked us up some great BBQ, and we all sat down and had our raffle.
Vendors were great to us this year, and the raffle held some great prizes. We
had almost $1000 worth of goodies, I think most came away with something.
New for this year, was the Florida Land Rover Clubs first
GPS Hunt, which was held Saturday night from 9:00 to midnight. 8 trucks
competed in the event, with Matt White and co-driver Bobby taking home the
gold. 1st prize was $50 dollars and a great hand held spot light.
The Rally was held in the Ocala National Forest at the Lake Ocklawaha RV Resort
& Campground. This is nice campground with full amenities, and very 4Wd
friendly, as they repeated host Florida Four Wheel drive events. Of important
note, much of the forest we used during our Rally is now temporarily closed by
the Forestry Service due to overuse. Next years Rally will have to be in the
southern part of the forest.
We had Rovers of all walks at this Rally, from Series IIa to Discovery Series
II, although there were no Freelanders or late model Range Rovers. There had
been a little rain just before the weekend so the dust wasn't too bad.
